Special U.S. Constitution Essay Event - Winner Reading!

This year once again there is a variety of events and displays all over our community planned to celebrate the 231th year of the signing of the U.S. Constitution. They are also designed to bring attention to the sixth Davis Constitution Essay Contest.

The Essay Contest offers four categories of eligibility based on age—elementary, junior high, high school and those nineteen and older residing in Davis.  The essays have a word limit of 500 words. Each category’s entries will be judged to select the top prize winner. Each of the four first prize winners will receive a $100 prize, be recognized at the City Council, read their essay at The Avid Reader the evening of Tuesday, October 16, and have their essay published in The Davis Enterprise.

Flyers on the rules of submission will be distributed to classes in the Davis Joint Unified School District studying the Constitution as well as other elementary and high school classes in Davis.

This year’s topic is: “Choose a freedom you are guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution. How is it under attack and what can be done to protect it?”

The deadline for submissions is 5 p.m. Friday, October 12.

The dropoff for the essays is The Avid Reader, 617 2nd Street in downtown Davis.

The Contest is sponsored by The Davis Enterprise, The Avid Reader, and a Davis group interested in American history and facts about the U.S. Constitution, “We the People of Davis.” Additional businesses contributing to the event are Awards and More of Davis and Konditerei.
