Author Event - The Warriors of Anbar by Ed Darack

The Avid Reader will be welcoming Journalist/Photographer Ed Darack and his Latest Nonfiction Title The Warriors of Anbar at The Avid Reader Friday, November 8.

More about The Warriors of Anbar:

In writing The Warriors of Anbar, Darack embedded with the 2nd Battalion of the 3rd Marine Regiment, known as the 2/3 during its 2006 stint in the Haditha Triad region of western Iraq. Al-Qaeda was cornered and desperate. They were vicious, terrorizing the local population decapitating locals thought to support Americans. Against this background, the Marines arrived with orders to drive out the terrorists.

Darack tells the Marines’ story battle by battle presenting one of the Corps’ finest—yet largely untold—stories. The book offers a coherent military history of a crucial conflict with al-Qaeda, describing important lessons learned by commanders on the ground as well as the experiences faced by the individual soldiers.

Comments R.M. Schneiderman of Newsweek, about the author “Ed Darack has emerged as one of the best, and most meticulous, reporters about the military in the country. Anything he writes is a must read.”
