His book outlines a life dedicated to equality of opportunity for all and describes the multiple collective projects he was involved in designed to better the condition of the marginalized and forgotten, those denied the promises of the American dream.

In his career as an organizer, Chatfield worked with Cesar Chavez to get union recognition for California farmworkers. He also created a Saturday school educational enrichment program for farmworker children in Bakersfield
He managed the Northern California general election campaign for Jerry Brown and built the largest volunteer charitable organization in Sacramento.
In short, Chatfield’s endeavors for justice took him throughout California from wineries to schools to fields to the state capitol itself.
