Author Event - Sarah's Journey West, Charlotte Spies for Justice by Nikki Shannon Smith

The Avid Reader will be welcoming back local author Nikki Shannon Smith and her latest children's historical fiction books, Sarah's Journey West and Charlotte Spies for Justice, in-store on Saturday, February 15th.

More about Sarah's Journey West and Charlotte Spies for Justice:

The two paperback titles are aimed at grades three through seven and ages eight through twelve. Acknowledging February as African American History Month, both works of fiction feature African American young women lead characters.

Sarah’s Journey West features the story of twelve-year old Sarah as she and her family make the decision to head West on the Oregon trail. Facing extreme weather, difficult terrain, and racism they know the journey will be worth it… if they can find fortune in California.

Charlotte Spies for Justice presents the story of twelve-year old Charlotte as she attempts to help her anti-slavery mistress in passing information to the Union Army. Will her efforts endanger them all or free 400 Union prisoners in danger of being moved deeper into Confederate territory?
