John Boe’s Living the Shakespearean Life collects (in the US and in England) oral histories from thirty-four Shakespeare scholars, directors, and actors in England and America including Boe himself.
It covers their thoughts about the Shakespearean life, including how they first became interested in Shakespeare, what they have learned from Shakespeare, their favorite lines, plays, and characters, what Shakespeare might have been like, and much else.

John Boe received his PhD from UC Berkeley, and is a Lecturer Emeritus at UC Davis, where he taught for thirty years and edited the journal Writing on the Edge. He recently co-edited Teachers on the Edge: The WOE Interviews, 1989-2017.
He has also published articles on Shakespeare, including two included in his collection of humorous, psychological, and literary essays, Life Itself: Messiness is Next to Goddessness and Other Essays, “To Kill Mercutio: Thoughts on Shakespeare's Psychological Development” and “The Introvert in Shakespeare.”
He has won teaching prizes from UC Davis and Phi Beta Kappa.
