Author Event - The Last Train to London by Meg Clayton Waite

The Avid Reader is proud to welcome author Meg Waite Clayton and her latest historical fiction novel, The Last Train to London, in-store on Friday, September 20th at 7:30 p.m.

More about The Last Train to London:

The plot of Last Train to London follows a little-known true story surrounding the Kindertransport-- the title given to the efforts made by the British government in the run-up to World War II  to bring out of Nazi Germany and occupied Austria and Czechoslovakia Jewish children-- and a forgotten heroine whose daring exploits helped save up to 10,000 children as Hitler marched through Europe.

Author Clayton encountered this real-life heroine, who became one of the central characters of her novel, in her early research on the transports. It is a review of a biography on this woman that is the foundation of Clayton’s main character’s actions and her bravery.

Comments former Davis author Karen Joy Fowler, “The Last Train to London is painful, absorbing and unforgettable. A wonderful tribute to courage, to a remarkable woman, to the ones she saved, and the ones she could not.” Fowler continues, “recommend this book to anyone who thinks no single person can make a difference.”
